How to Renew Car Registration in LTO
Step 1: Stencil the engine and chassis number
This is normally done by the LTO representative themselves. But if you don’t want to pay a tip you can do it yourself as long as you know where the engine and chassis number of your vehicle is located. In addition, you can also have them fill-out the MV Inspection Report, which will be approved by the MV inspector. Just don’t forget to give them a little tip for their help.
Step 2: Avail Third Party Liability Insurance
A separate on-site TPL insurance are available in the LTO field offices, we suggest purchasing your TPL from external insurance agencies available in the market because it’s much cheaper.
Step 3: Check if the plate number has been encoded on the national database
After the Third Party Liability was paid, Motor Vehicles owners with plate numbers that aren’t on the national database will be required to bring the documents (OR, CR, TPL) to the Window 2 of the LTO office to have it recorded.If the plate has already been recorded, on the other hand, MV owners will then have to pay ₱ 460.00 for the emission test and get their queue number.
Step 4: Emission test
For the emission test, you will be asked to start the engine. While the engine idles, the sampling probe will then be inserted into the exhaust pipe for 20 seconds to get the reading. For diesel powered vehicles, depress the accelerator until maximum engine speed is reached for 2 to 4 seconds. After the test, a photo, which includes the tester and the vehicle, will be taken after as a proof that the test took place.
Step 5: Update records
Now that testing is finished, present all documents to the cashier. They will then instruct you to bring the documents to the Records Department so that they can update the database. We now proceed to the last step on How to Renew your Car Registration in LTO.
Step 6: Pay and get the new LTO sticker
Once you’re done, present the returned documents to the inspector at Window 6. Wait for your name to be called by the cashier to receive your I.D. and pay the renewal fees which could go from ₱ 1,260.00 to around ₱ 5,000.00, depending on the vehicle class.
To avoid any inconvenience we suggest that you renew you Car’s registration in time. LTO provides a system wherein you need to renew it based on the Last and second to the last digit of you Plate Number. This is updated and complies to newer Plate numbers. Check out the pictures below.

Duly accomplished and approved Motor Vehicle Inspection Report (MVIR)
Confirmation of Franchise from the LTFRB, in case of for hire only
Valid Motorized Tricycle Operator’s Permit (MTOP) for tricycle (TC) only

Endorsement from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Protocol’s Office for Diplomatic/Tax Exempt only

Original copy of the Lifting of general alarm
Report of Recovery by the PNP or other law enforcement agencies
Copy of the Alarm Sheet
PNP Crime Laboratory Report (macro etching report) or NBI report, fully identifying the MV and stating therein the tampering done on the engine or chassis, if any
Confirmation of OR/CR when the registering district office is different from the district office that issued OR/CR
