Penguin Falls In Love With An Anime Character – A person having affection towards a 2-D character is nothing new. But ever heard of animals feeling the same?
Nope. Not until a viral Twitter post from a Japanese zoo last 26th of April came to surface.
Last April 22nd, the makers of Kemono Friends, a recent hit anime tv series, collaborated with Tobu zoo in Saitama prefecture. Around 60 cutout images of the anime characters have been installed around the zoo. Each of them were posted with their respective animal counterparts.
Almost all of the animals seem slightly less enthusiastic about them except for a penguin named Grape-kun.
Grape-kun, 20 years old (an old man in penguin years), seemed to have been smitten by the cutout of Holulu, an anthropomorphic penguin from the Kemono Friends anime series.
Appatently, Holulu falls under the same species as the infatuated Grape-kun, both are Humboldt penguins.
In these posts, you can see Grape-kun staring at Holulu. Netizens had their hearts melted at the sight.
For those unfamiliar with Kemono Friends, it’s a recent hit anime in Japan that stars a cast of zoo animals turned into cute moe girls. There are several penguin characters on the show, and Hululu is a Humboldt penguin, the same species as the infatuated Grape-kun.
Unfortunately, the two had to be separated by the zoo keepers as Grape-kun had ignored feeding time due to his obsession to the anime character. They had to make sure he still eats his meals like a good penguin should.
The promotion is reported to run until June 25th to encourage more vistors to the zoo and now everyone is wondering what would happen to their love story.
